Code of Research Ethics
Ethics and plagiarism are significant components of research and publication. Sometimes, researchers claim others’ work is their own, which degrades the reputation of the individual or college. The purpose of this set of guidelines is to provide a positively oriented set of practical suggestions for maintaining integrity in research. The adherence to ethical research practices leads to more attention to the details of scientific research, including qualitative analysis, quantitative and statistical techniques, and more thoughtful collaboration among investigators. Also, the credibility of Science with the general public depends on the maintenance of the highest ethical standards in research. The college has formed its own Research Committee. This Research Committee assesses the academic/research work of the student/researcher scholar/ researcher who produces their work in the form of Project reports, Research papers, Research proposals and thesis work. Research work in the form of papers/projects should go through the process of plagiarism and have to maintain high academic and production standards. The research work produced would be thoroughly assessed for its viability across the globe and needs to reach the highest success. We take some extra measures to ensure that the work is at par with the national and international standards.
Our college strictly follows research ethics, which need to be bound and admired by the entire faculty. The guidelines are a key factor and driving force for our staff. Keeping in view that research is a tool to enhance and upgrade the lives of all walks of society, we as a team strive hard to do the best in our practices.
- The research must have objectives and aims.
- The research must be thought-provoking, analytical, and apt for execution.
- The research areas should support either directly or indirectly the student and faculty community.
- The research must be genuine and practically worth studying (One needs to acknowledge it’s their own work).
- The research staff and students must get prior permission from the respective department head (i.e. to get guidance and support from the authorities).
- The researcher should provide concrete evidence in support of the aims and objectives of their respective topics.
- The researcher should do a SWOT analysis.
- The researcher should share their ideas and views in the faculty development program, i.e. in order to make all the other staff members part of the new research.
- We encourage the researcher by rewarding through incentives as decided by the management committee.
- Code of Ethics to check malpractices and plagiarism in research.
Research misconduct is defined as fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism, including misrepresentation of credentials when proposing, performing, or reviewing research or reporting research results. It does not include honest errors or differences of opinion. Misconduct, as defined above, is viewed as a serious professional deviation that is subject to sanctions imposed both by the College and by many professional associations and, in the case of funded research, the respective funding agency.
The College is committed to producing and promoting research and scholarship of the highest quality, devoid of plagiarism of any sort and other unethical practices, while trying to allow academic freedom and innovative thinking. The College instructs its teachers and students to abide by the highest standards of integrity in their conduct of educational research and/or support of academic research activities. Plagiarism constitutes unethical scientific behavior and is never acceptable. Proper acknowledgement of the work of others used in a research work must always be given. Further, it is the obligation of each author to provide prompt retractions or corrections of errors in published works.
Faculties should maintain a culture of honesty and transparency in all their research activities.
To ensure the originality of the content, every thesis will be checked using anti-plagiarism software.
Every researcher of the College pursuing a doctoral degree has to check their final thesis using a plagiarism detector – Turnitin– before submission.
The thesis is allowed for submission only if the plagiarism checker shows a similarity less than that prescribed by the University norms.
No form of plagiarism is allowed in the College. Plagiarism may be of various kinds, such as claiming another’s paper as one’s own, copying or paraphrasing substantial parts of another’s work without due acknowledgement, claiming credit for another’s research and so on.
Use of freely available software to catch instances of plagiarism during review. In case the teachers/students are attending/participating in any conference, permission must be sought from the Principal in writing, stating the purpose of the visit and the name and venue of the seminar/conference.
The college places a strong emphasis on the standard of research, original thought, and expression, which are ensured through multiple layers of review.
We also keep our teachers and students informed of appropriate guidelines for publication in various journals, including those recognized by the UGC. Our library is equipped with some quality journals from the world over, which provide a platform for quality research and writing for our teachers and students.
When in doubt about the accepted ethical standards in a particular case, a researcher should discuss the matter on a confidential basis with an academic in charge, another respected colleague, or the IQAC head.
