About the department:
- The Department of Economics is active not only in teaching the syllabus at the Under Graduate and Post Graduate level but also in developing the overall personality of the individual. For this the Department organizes several co-curriculum and extra-curricular activities in which the students are encouraged to participate.
- The Maharashtra Education Society's, Abasaheb Garware College has started the Department of Economics at the Under Graduate level in 1960 and the Post Graduate level in 1970. Since 2003, the department has also started the Post Graduate Research Center in Economics, affiliated to the Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune.
- The department is a University recognized Centre for Research in Economics. Presently there are 17 students registered for Ph.D and 4 guides are affiliated for M.Phil and Ph.D.

Staff Details
Since 2003, the department has started the Post Graduate Research Centre in Economics, affiliated to the Savitribai Phule Pune University. 65+ research students of the departments are awarded PhD degree and presently 16 students are registered for Ph.D.
