Department Of Economics

About the department:
    The Department of Economics is active not only in teaching the syllabus at the Under Graduate and Post Graduate level but also in developing the overall personality of the individual. For this the Department organizes several co-curriculum and extra-curricular activities in which the students are encouraged to participate.
    The Maharashtra Education Society's, Abasaheb Garware College has started the Department of Economics at the Under Graduate level in 1960 and the Post Graduate level in 1970. Since 2003, the department has also started the Post Graduate Research Center in Economics, affiliated to the Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune.
The department has won the 'Best Department Award' in the college for 2007-08.
    The department is a University recognized Centre for Research in Economics. Presently there are 17 students registered for Ph.D and 4 guides are affiliated for M.Phil and Ph.D.

    The college has five divisions for F.Y.B.A., two divisions grantable basis and one is non-grant basis. For the economic subject admissions are given on merit and reservation.
S.Y.B.A. and T.Y.B.A.
    These admissions are given by the merit and reservation as per Government and SPP University Rules & Regulations.
Master of Arts (Economics)
    These admissions are given by the merit and reservation as per Government and SPP University Rules & Regulations.
Ph.D.
    These admissions are given as per the rules of Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune
Activities:
  • Organised an International Conference was organized on "Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s Economics & Social Thoughts and Their Contemporary Relevance".
  • Jointly organised an international conference on “Innovation for Inclusive Growth, Development & Sustainability”.
  • Organised a lecture on “Financial Well-being” for Teaching and administrative staff of the college.
  • Article writing competition on Union Budget-2025” for the students.

  • Every year Department organizes "ARTHTSAV" program with the help of students. There are various competitions under ARTHTSAV like Economic Rangoli, Economics Crossword, Poster Exhibition, Debate and Elocution competitions, Essay writing, Cultural program, Sport events etc.
