Department Of Computer Science

University of Pune started B. C. S. (Bachelor of Computer Science) course in the year 1986 and Abasaheb Garware College was one of the first few colleges, getting the permission to start this course. With the enormous efforts of former principal Prof. D. K. Kulkarni and Prof. P. L. Kale, Computer science department was established in 1986. Initially only graduation course was being conducted in the department. In the year 1996, department started post-graduation course M. Sc. (Computer Science), formerly known as M. C. S. (Master of Computer Science). From the Academic Year 2016-17, Department has also started B. C. A. (Science) as under graduation course and in the academic year 2019-20, another post-graduation course M. Sc. (Computer Application) started successfully. Now, Computer Science is a well-established, well-equipped department of the college. There are 4 laboratories with all necessary software & hardware. In the year 2022-23, two new courses commenced in the department.  Computer Science department has formed an association of the students called Computer Science Association (CSA). It provides the platform where students can showcase their hidden talents. Under CSA, we conduct guest lecturers for students on various topics to build their academics strong and make them aware of current IT trends. We also conduct inter-college and intra-college competitions involving co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. All these activities are managed by the students and are for the students. These activities help students to explore strengths and talents outside of academics, develop stronger time-management and organizational skills, build confidence and self-esteem. In all they help students to build skills that are not necessarily taught in the classroom, but are still important for the future. Every year we get huge response from students for all these activities.
