Department Of Psychology

The Department of Psychology was established in 1966. The department conducts UG and PG courses. The post graduate course started in 2009-10. Every year, 100 students take Psychology as their major subject at undergraduate and post graduate level.Department has collaborations with Human Education Society, and Pandurang Shastri Mulgaokar College. Through these collaborations department extends its outreach by providing them services of counselling, research, training, etc. As its extension activity department provides counselling, therapeutic services to students and society through “Jeevan Margadarshan Kendra” since 1990. Till date it has helped thousands of students to get insight into their strengths and get holistic approach towards their career and life. Since its establishment departments is continuously working towards the enhancement of human potential with broader social perspective.
Infrastructure:
  • Department has its independent space of 1200 sq.ft. Department is fully equipped with advanced instruments and standardized psychometric tests. Department has built up of 5 cubicles which serve the purpose of maintaining confidentiality and suitable environment for conducting experiments and research for better understanding of human behaviour.

Departmental ActivitiesThe Department of Psychology actively conducted various academic and student-oriented activities during the academic year 2025–26 under the guidance of the Head of the Department Dr. Rakesh A. More. The department focused on students’ academic development, personality enhancement, career awareness, and psychological well-being through continuous guidance and interactive academic programmes.The department successfully organized the inauguration programme of the Patanjali Association along with a Career Guidance Guest Lecture on 21st August 2025 at the AV Hall. The programme was inaugurated in the presence of Principal Prof. Dr. Vilas Ugale, Dr. Rakesh A. More, Head of the department, and guest speaker Ms. Ankita Pawar. During the session, valuable guidance was provided to students regarding career opportunities, personality development, mental well-being, and self-awareness. The programme received an enthusiastic response from students and proved highly informative and motivating.The Department also encouraged research orientation, value-based education, and student participation in academic activities throughout the year. Various counselling and guidance sessions were conducted to support students in managing academic stress and personal challenges, thereby creating a positive and supportive learning environment under the Academic Care 2025–26 initiative. 
  • The Department has its association named Patanjali Mandal. Under its banner Department conducts various co-curricular and extracurricular activities throughout the year. Department organizes various guest lectures, seminars, workshops for students and staff members.
  • Department actively work towards creating social awareness in students by making its outreach to NGOs like Muktangan Rehabilitation Centre, Schizophrenic Awareness Association, Prasanna Autism Centre, Kaivalyadham & Manashakti Kendra Lonavala, Savali Institute of Multiple Disability Children, Kamayani School for mentally Handicapped, KEM hospital, etc.
  • Staff and students of department are enthusiastic in innovation and research and actively participate and present papers in Workshops, Seminars, Symposiums, and Conferences held at state, national and international levels.
  • The Department extends it psychological services to other departments of Abasaheb Garware College, by identifying slow learners and providing remedial coaching and counselling to them.
  • Department organizes field visits and internships in various hospitals, counselling centres, rehabilitation centres and organizations working in the field of Psychology. This helps students to get practical and applied approach in knowledge.
  • Department organizes A guest lecture on “Opportunities of Foreign Education” for students of TYBA, MA I and MA II was organized by Psychology department in collaboration with IDP. Dr. Clemens Keiker briefed students about importance of research in the field of Psychology.
Careers: Students passing out from Psychology Department have a wide scope in terms of advanced studies and job opportunities.   • Department offers a course of BA in Psychology which is fulltime course of three years. During this course it offers papers of General Psychology, Social Psychology, Positive Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Scientific Research and Experimental Psychology, & Practical including administration of tests and conduction of experiments.
  • Department also offers psychology subject to F.Y.B.Sc students. Foundations of Psychology, Experimental Psychology, Social Psychology, Psychological Testing and Practical are the papers taught during the course.
  • A PG course of 2 years is offered with specialization in Clinical Psychology. Course follows Semester Credit Point in four Semesters.
