The department encourages students to work on industrial projects. Collaboration with the Satpuda Foundation: The Department of Statistics, MES Abasaheb Garware College, Pune and the Satpuda Foundation have collaborated to do a T. Y. B. Sc. project together. Satpuda Foundation is a registered non-profit NGO working to save wildlife and forests across central India. It was established to highlight the biodiversity of the Central Indian Highlands (i.e. the Satpuda mountain range), educate different sections of the society about its importance and to tackle threats to the area’s forests and wildlife through well-coordinated research oriented conservation actions. The Department of Statistics, MES Abasaheb Garware College, Pune (MES AGC) selected a group of five students according to the Savitribai Phule Pune University guidelines. The prime objective of the project was to analyze various factors related to the conditions prevalent in the forests of six Tiger Reserves viz. Pench Tiger Reserve (Maharashtra), Pench Tiger Reserve (Madhya Pradesh), Tadoba National Park, Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary, Kanha Tiger Reserve and Satpuda Tiger Reserve. The aim was to explore and extract information useful for forest conservation and upliftment of the villagers’ socio-economic conditions. The key objectives of the study were:
  • To study various socio-economic parameters of people living in the villages around the above six forest regions.
