The various Statistics-based events held under ‘Stat-O-Fest’ are: Poster Competition, Quiz Competition, Treasure Hunt / Scavenger Event, Statistical Games
2) STAT-WARS
Stat-Wars’ (Problem Corner) is an annual activity commenced from the academic year 2019-2020. It is held for all under-graduate science students. The activity helps students in stimulating the problem-solving streak via number crunching, tricky problems, real-life problems, small case studies, etc. This activity consists of five rounds. In each round, five brainstorming questions are displayed and the students are to submit their solutions individually within a stipulated time period of fifteen days. The final merit list is prepared based on the collective scores of all five rounds.
3) PUSA ACTIVITIES
Pune University Statistics Association (PUSA) in collaboration with different colleges organizes various activities for the propagation of Statistics at the undergraduate level since 2001-2002. Under PUSA, the department conducts the following activities:
T.Y.B.Sc. – Project Competition & Career Development Camp.

The department encourages students to work on industrial projects.Collaboration with the Satpuda Foundation: The Department of Statistics, MES Abasaheb Garware College, Pune and the Satpuda Foundation have collaborated to do a T. Y. B. Sc. project together.Satpuda Foundation is a registered non-profit NGO working to save wildlife and forests across central India. It was established to highlight the biodiversity of the Central Indian Highlands (i.e. the Satpuda mountain range), educate different sections of the society about its importance and to tackle threats to the area’s forests and wildlife through well-coordinated research oriented conservation actions. The Department of Statistics, MES Abasaheb Garware College, Pune (MES AGC) selected a group of five students according to the Savitribai Phule Pune University guidelines. The prime objective of the project was to analyze various factors related to the conditions prevalent in the forests of six Tiger Reserves viz. Pench Tiger Reserve (Maharashtra), Pench Tiger Reserve (Madhya Pradesh), Tadoba National Park, Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary, Kanha Tiger Reserve and Satpuda Tiger Reserve. The aim was to explore and extract information useful for forest conservation and upliftment of the villagers’ socio-economic conditions. The key objectives of the study were:
To study various socio-economic parameters of people living in the villages around the above six forest regions.
To identify the factors significantly affecting the NTFP activities in these villages.
To compare the amount of NTFP activities carried in these six regions.
To study and analyze the pattern of forest fire occurrences in these regions to predict future occurrences.
To study the uniformity of forest fire occurrences over a period of one year.
To identify and study the trends in forest, non-forest and water cover of the above six regions using satellite images of over a hundred villages from year 2001 to 2017.
To study the relation between increase/decrease of populations on the forest cover of the periphery villages for each of the above six regions.
To carry out exploratory data analysis of all the variables considered in our study.
Five T. Y. B.Sc. students, Atharva P. Bhat, Atharva M. Tagare, Atharva S. Tambe, Gourish B. Patil and Sahil R. Urkude, completed this project with Satpuda Foundation under the guidance of Asst. Prof. A. R. Pali. The project report was submitted to the Savitribai Phule Pune University as an academic project for the completion of Third Year B.Sc. degree course and the Satpuda Foundation. Software applications such as SAGA, QGIS, R-Studio, SPSS were used for data collection and analysis.
Placements
Students after completing their graduation from Statistics they generally prefer to pursue higher studies across reputed universities in India and out of India. 20% to 30% students in every year going abroad to pursue master degree in Statistics, Applied Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science etc. Few of them apply for competitive exams such as MPSC and UPSC.
In MPSC, Statistics students apply for district Statistical officer (DSO) grade B post.
The Indian Statistical Service (ISS) is a prestigious civil service under Group A of the Central Civil Services in India. Recruitment to the ISS is conducted through a competitive examination organized by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree with Statistics, Mathematical Statistics, or Applied Statistics as one of the subjects. The examination typically includes written tests and interviews.
In private sector Statistics students have been selected for various positions such as, Statistician, Data Analyst, Data Engineer, Data Scientist, Software Programmer etc.
Our students have been and are getting placed in reputed companies like,
Infosys
Tata Motors
Wipro
TCS
Cognizant
